YOH Fest 2011?

What are the deadlines?

Registrations: April 19
Withdrawals without penalty: May 20
Confirmation of Entries: May 23
Drama Scripts: July 23
Cast Lists: July 23
Short Films: September 1

Can we choose which heats we would like to perform in?

Yes, as long as the preferred heat location has been specified on your Registration Form.

Can other students watch the rehearsals?

No, the rehearsals are closed. The only students permitted in the auditorium during rehearsals are the students on stage, and their backstage crew. Students from the same school, but a different performance are not permitted in the auditorium. Please ensure you have enough teacher supervision organised.

What time do we arrive on the day?

It is imperative that you arrive by 10am on the day of your rehearsals / performance. The day is run to a tight schedule and delays are an inconvenience to YOH Fest and the other schools.

Do our students have to go back to school after their rehearsals?

No, your students can stay at the venue for the whole day. We encourage this as it gives the schools a chance to get to know other students.

Are there things for the students to do during the day?

Formal activities are not organised by YOH Fest. You will be responsible for all student activities on the day.

Will dinner be provided for the students?

The dinner break is held between 5:30-6pm. Students will be responsible for all of their meals. We endeavour to secure venues that are close to other facilities, such as food outlets; however, it is best to look at the area for yourself so your school’s needs are met. Please note that most venues have in-house catering, therefore do not allow outside food on the premises. Please take this into consideration when making your arrangements.

What do we do with our props?

When you arrive, bring all large props to the loading dock of the venue that you will be performing at. Your backstage crew are responsible for working with the venue staff to ensure safe and convenient placement of the props.

How do our Visual Art entries need to be displayed?

Visual Art must be mounted on backing card with sticky Velcro dots, or on a canvas that must have picture hanging wire attached at the back. Any sculptures or large-sized art work needs to be specified on the Performance Detail Sheet prior to the event.

How can I take advantage of the Curriculum Council Endorsement of YOH Fest?

Read the Curriculum Council Endorsement section in your Production Manual for the correct steps to be taken.

What is the YOH Fest Talent Quest?

The YOH Fest Talent Quest has become an event in its own right. It is held from 5-6pm in the foyer or auditorium of the venue. Students are free to dance, sing, do stand-up comedy, play an instrument, and do impersonations… any special talent that they may have! It’s a great way for everyone to mix together in an informal way, and it gets the performers excited for the big event!

Will the Dance and Drama entries be scheduled on different days in the Heats?

No, all school performances will be scheduled on the same day, regardless of which category the performance falls into. This makes it easier on teachers when organising excursions, transportation, accommodation etc.

When planning the lighting for our performance, what sorts of lights are available?

The lighting grid will be in a standard configuration, consisting of spots and floodlights with various coloured gels. Roving spotlights are not available. If your venue has a cyclorama, then this can also be lit for your performance. You may have to adjust small parts of your lighting program on the day; however we have found that usually the arrangement is more than adequate.

When will I know what time my rehearsal and performance will be?

You will be supplied with a schedule for your day of performance 2 weeks before the event.

Where do I get tickets from for the heats and Grand Final?

Tickets are available from the venue. YOH Fest does not sell the tickets.

Do the performers need to purchase tickets?

Yes, the performers will be required to purchase a ticket if they wish to be in the audience at any point during the event. If they choose not to, they are welcome to remain in their allocated dressing rooms, under supervision, for the duration of the show.

Where can I get a copy of the Public Liability Insurance for the venue?

Please contact the Event Manager on 9582-8253 and one will be faxed to you.

When do we pick up our props and Visual Art Entries?

All props need to be removed from the venue on the night of your performance. Visual Art entries need to be collected in the morning after the final YOH Fest heat at your venue.
